Identity

Something someone said made me think about this. I know whenever someone asked me 'who are you?' the first thing I would say would be my name, my religion, my gender...lakin that aside have you ever really thought about what makes you who you are? Is it the decisions you've made, the life you've lead or the life you want to live? We change as we grow older but how often do you change and how smooth is your transition? Are you stuck on who you think you are, who you want to be and who you're supposed to be? Do you ever question where you fit in this world?
According to the psychologist who coined the term 'Idenityt Crisis', Erikson, identity is "a subjective sense as well as an observable quality of personal sameness and continuity, paired with some belief in the sameness and continuity of some shared world image. As a quality of unself-conscious living, this can be gloriously obvious in a young person who has found himself as he has found his communality. In him we see emerge a unique unification of what is irreversibly given--that is, body type and temperament, giftedness and vulnerability, infantile models and acquired ideals--with the open choices provided in available roles, occupational possibilities, values offered, mentors met, friendships made, and first sexual encounters." (Erikson, 1970.)
So what shapes your identity and how committed are you to it?

identity crisis is generally a wide issue, to narrow it down i think you should read up more on quarter life crises to better understand what goes on in relation to this forum and its members.

Surrender I agree life is about having principles and that comes from religion, if you tie yourself to Allah and Islam then you are more grounded. The big decisions are obvious in showing personality lakin the day to day decisions we make about life, the things that we don't think are a big deal, those influence us on the whole a lot more than people assume. Do you always think of what religion expects of you in every decision you make or do you sometimes go by your own thoughts or wants?

I have and it is quite common especially for recent graduates. Are you saying that majority of the people on this forum are going through a quarter life crisis?
