Asalaamu Alaikum all,

Sometimes I'm so happy I don't understand Somali politics. I don't understand why some groups don't want peace, and I don't understand why each group is just looking out for their own interest instead of the greater good. Doesn't a peaceful Somalia benefit all of us in the end? Other times, I wish I understood. I wish I understood their pain, their worries, their reluctance. Then, I think the average Somali just wants to survive another day, and they just want to have a proper government, they want stability, and they want a good future for their children. Don't they deserve that?

Sometimes I despair for my country, when I think about all those women, children and men suffering, and for what? A whole group of people in Af-Gooye are dying of thirst. Subhanallah.That's just so heart-breaking. Ilahay ha uu naxariisto inti dhimatay, and may Allah (swt) ease the suffering of innocent Somali women, men and children. Ameen.

Somalia has more hope than say, Falastiin... atleast Somalis have the freedom to isolate each other, play stalemate politics, steal each other's lands, ect, ect...but they have the freedom to the opposite... and take advantage of bleek situations..

sadly, there is no long term perspective for the Somali... its all "what am I gonna get now?" in terms of $$$

whether it be any of these groups...

though at this point, I'd rather a force such as Shabaab crush every group and take over the country

Ogaden is 100 year deal from the time of Emperor Menelik to the time the British had it in WW2 and then gave it back to Haile Selassie...

I focused more on Somalia because Somalia is supposed to be a base or a haven where they can be free and be able to free that area...

but everything can't be militancy... even in the Ogaden there are a multitude of clans that aren't on the same page. Many oppose Ethiopia and many work for Ethiopia and favor Ethiopia as long is it suits their interests.

but Somalis just aren't the same anymore... hebel wants only hebel... not anything more...

so we're left with what we have now

The only thing that puzzles me about Somali politics is that many somalis, including many in this joint don't have the ability to think as individual regardless of their background or education level. If you try to represent a clan, u lose your personal authenticity and start talking like a carefully programmed robot. Yesterday, I came across a topic in which the poster called sheik turki a hero and president Sharif a donkey. All subsequent replies turned out to be ugly clan fight. Today, I cam across a couple of piracy related topics in which people started fighting along clan lines. How can u debate constructively as an individual when you have a whole clan on your shoulder? When ppl who left Somalia and saw how the world works have this mindset, what d u expect from those who never left their clan enclaves?

The other thing that bugs me is how many of us are blinded by the hate they have for other Somalis. The so called non-Somali Somalia experts come here and read your venom before they lecture their policy makers and others about Somalia. How can any1 who hates his/her own ppl claim to be Somali?

I think it is time our people learn what individualism and free thinking are all about.

admin, i love you man...wallahi that is so on point and I have also been saying this for a while...there is no individualism in somali politics...

even the younger generation here who never seen somalia still have the same midset.

You have topics of people wishing for other Somalis to be bombed... you have topics of people wishing entire clans to be demolished, you have people who believe they are superior because they belong to hebel

its a mental slavery... you can't represent an entire clan... its illogical and you lose credibility when you try to.

Some of these same people will come in here and justify their opinions... they're entitled to their opinion but their opinions are chained by this baggage... and I'd say its one of the main negatives of Somali culture...

admin:- That's something I've noticed too, there's a lot of collective thinking going on. Each clan seems to have their own private section, I don't see the point of that. Look at FAH1223, he is constantly called a self-hater because he refuses to think along clan lines. Look at The-Screw he gets a lot of grief for not mentioning his qabiil, so they assume he is ashamed or whatever. It's really sad. The best thing to do is to think for yourself, don't speak for your qabiil, speak for yourself. Why take all the burdens of your qabiil on your shoulder? Why take credit for something your qabiil did?

FAH1223, hyperactive etc are the future of Somalia. May Allah (swt) protect them from the evil of qabyaalad. Ameen.
