Do Ethiopians Wear Macawis?

Post by Kramer »

Or is this thing only for Somalis?
you think if macawis is our culture, may be near by countries like Ethiopia, Kenya may also wear it. But I never seen an ethiopian wearing one (forget about Ethiopian somalis or oromos).

The only ppl I saw wearing Macawis are Indians, Bangaladesh and may be Indonesians, so we have more in common with those ppl then our neighbors. Even, women's cloth such as dirac/guntina and food such as Chapati/sabaayad and Sambusa are from India. are we freaking Indians then?

its called cultural exchange, just like we borrowed those goofy hats from the arabs, we borrowed the macawiss from the Bangladesh folk

remember Somalia's long ass coast has had us trading with Arabs, Indians, Persians, etc. forever

first and foremost Somalis have been wearing what could be called macaawisses forever.....its just that before the late 1970's they used to be smaller white sheets we would tie around our waists.....and before that it was animals skins

its just the the bangladeshi and east asians started making those colorfully things we turned into macaawisses

look back at some old fotos of Somalis before globalization started around the 1960's........you'll see no one wearing the macaawiss of today then

I don't see why anyone should get banned for making the text you have quoted.

Yes Ethiopians wear Macawis,

Oromos do and Afars which are both Ethiopians, even tigray people during the rebels day use to use macawis (though their usage was slightly different).
