ARE WE AN EXPERIMENT?

One of the few things that supposedly distinguish man from beast is man's ability to question his own existence. Who are we? Why are We here? And man has been trying to answer those questions since probably man first realised his own existence and became self-aware.

The most common answers are those exploited by religions that their is really an unseen, extraneous force who not only have some kind of interest in going to the trouble of creating us but also have further plans for us. One has to admire the sheer wonderment of the human imaginations utilised in these tales from Gods blowing life into vulvas and producing boys who can walk on water to men turning into gods and rats at the switch of a breath.

Some of the stories they came up are funnier, more ingenous or more disturbing than others but their is a thread of commonality that goes through them all: there is a reason for our existence and there si something out there apart from us.

So we could indeed be an experiment being put in petri dish by forces beyond our comprehension? Is this relationship akin to the way we see bacteria and if yes do manipulators have intentions as sinsiter as ours usually are towards bacteria? What are they trying to find out?

I know your possible answers to these questions(no matter how lame!)....however...If Bacteria, a single cell creature is what life has started from(or Fungi/Algae) and these animals needed H2O to start and maintain life, as every scientifc evidence proofs...then I am all for God/allaH/Dio/Dieu.. actually, i don't know about other religions but islam is very clear: we are nothing but experiment. have you read the first few sections of al-baqra, the second surra?

and there is that famous verse from ad-dariyat... which sums it up all: "I DID NOT CREATE THE DEMONS AND THE HUMANS EXCEPT THAT THEY DO MY SERVICE." (wamaa khalaqt ul jinn wal ins ilaa la yacbiduun)

what that verse puts forth is -- DO not bother; you are nothing but an experiment. i will give you this much "freedom" ... and if you piss me off, i will rott you in hell.

to me, that seems pretty fair. after all, i certainly did not create myself... who am i to go against my nature?

btw, this is why i accept good people like yourself. and that i don't believe you are going to hell. you know why? because you don't murder... nor do you vile the earth. and THAT is the caabud/service. god does not care weather we "believe" in him... but he cares that we believe in him enough to follow our ROUH/SPIRIT-- which is that tiny, wheenzy little voice we call 'reason' -- which keeps us and others safe from each other Very Happy

i happen to think islam has come up with the most rational answer to the "why are we here" question.

gurey, are you for real? dude, we have three things; shaitan, nafs and rouh in the body. nafs is the middle... and is the one that is questioned about following either the rouh or the shaitan, and is rewarded or punished accordingly. the shaitan gives "baadil"/bad advise... where the rouh gives "saalix" or good advise.

for example, the shaitan would tell you... "uhm, it is kind of early dude... it is gonna hurt to wash with those cold assss waters! sleep more !" and the rouh will be like, "dude, listen to the call-- PRAYER IS BETTER THAN SLEEP!!!"

this is a basic islamic concept Rolling Eyes
