Absent Somali Fathers

Post by Oxy- »

All my life I have always argued the point that Somali families need Aabo present in order for the kids to be successful academically. And for a long time my thought were time after time proved correct. The loose girls and the drug addict sons almost all had fathers who chewed 24/7 and never took interest in his kids …. or worse just left them. :|

Until I met the Mubarek family. A mother who got married had 3 kids and from the moment the 3rd child was born her husband divorced and left her. She raised them all herself in poor conditions and Now after 20yrs later both the 2 sons graduated with engineer degrees and their young sister is finishing her last year in june 2009 with a psychology degree planning 2do her master’s.

Talk about a devoted hard working Hooyo

Oxy...... I have missed u. Where have thau been lately? Did u have a nervous breakdown of something? :|

Well good for Mubarek family, they are an exception. But you only see 'academic' as successes. The kids might end being dysfunctional, screwed up educated adults. You cant measure succsses with education zenith, personally i value--simple things as "personal, responsible law abiding citizens"! Polite kids and good manners speak high in my world. Education gives u monetary satisfaction but it doesn't give u moral stability.

Yeah, absolutely. Holding a degree does not mean you are a good person and having no formal education does not mean you are bad. It's the person's ethics and morals which make or break him/her.

Cilmigu waa iftiin""

I like this saying. But it only highlights somalis desire of Lacaag. The "Iftiin" they mean is shining bling bling.

Oxy, i am not undervalueing education, but it should not be put high on pedastal. Poor people who cannot afford education would feel they are left out. That they dont matter without education. Exhibit A--Navy. Navy macaanto u do matter. :rose:

Personally, unlike u Oxy .....I dont value worldly, earthly bling blings. Education is one of the blings--now the education Quran--that is something, show me a true master of Quran and i will tell u how inlove i am of him.
