The Whole Country of Djibouti has one University!!

What does that say about their value of education or the French is keeping them down--they go to other countries if they want a good university.
Even this university was founded in 2000, they didn't even had a university before that! man! compared that to say a small region in Somalia that has two or more universities.

The University of Djibouti is based at the capital city of Djibouti. The university is the only higher level teaching institution in the east African country.

Somalia has got around 20 so called Universities, Almost every region has got at least 1 university but the standard of teaching is really poor. Atleast better then nothing.

With a population of around half a million why would they need loads of universities? One excellent uni is better than hundreds of mediocre ones. Having said that, I think they could probably do with at least one more.

I really like to have different choices to choose from, what if I get suspended from that University or if I didn't get accepted? I have to travel out of the country to go to other University! place how many thousand ppl could one unversity handle? they can't take more then 3000 right? what happens to the rest of half a million ppl ?

before that people usually went to france or malaysia for further education

Lol its about population and not whether it is a city or not take for example London and its surrounding areas has about 50 universities , one city large population



Somalia use to have 1 university but it was extremely good and many African presidents and politicians probably graduated from it... at the end of the day its not the number of University but the variety and quality of is courses + it should be capable of supplying good research/laboratory facilities and a large accommodation i think Muqodisho Uni had all that covered

Djibouti is not a true country, it's more like a city.

Many cities the seize of Djibouti (600.000) don't even have universities or just one.

ok guys... yes it has one university which was called pole university before 2005 and renamed djibouti university after.
they also have a medical school which was opened last year.
