Naayaa and Waryaa

Post by hanad_mn »

I have always been curious why Somali women are all of a sudden sensitive to the Word " Naayaa" while they call us "Waryaa" all the time. ironically, The It is only the Southern Somali women that find Naayaa Provocative. Waqooyi are cool with it.They greet women in the morning with Naayaa hee Caisha, Naa bal Iska waran. Even Our Mothers Call us Waryaa Cabdi iyo Waryaa cumar. Is Naayaa more provocative than Waryaa?

Because we associate it with being called out. When someone you're not comfortable with calls you naaya it's like they're telling you to come get it so you have to stand up and say "What? You Want Some Of This eh? Walahi waan kujabjabina" Brings back memories of duksi and nursery.

The term in general is too overrated. Besides, not many females get offended by it, It's mainly dumaarka oo aqwaan ah,that dislike it the most. However if you really look at it, how would it feel having your mother or sister be addressed as one ? if you look at it from that prespective it is an insult.
