When writing an email to an admissions office of a prestigious school, how does one go about the task without sounding completely pretentious?

Formal is good, yes?

F-ck, this entire process is nerve-racking.

Oh, and has anyone ever taken the AP English Language and Composition exam?

Advice;

Dont play with your thesaurus book too much.
Be concise and avoid ambiguity(if thats how u spell the word)
Oh and importantly make sure all your grammer and spellings are correct lol, i had a friend turned down once by a great school b/c her mis-spelling was in their words 'shameful'. Bloody harsh.

If merely asking an innocent question's making me this nervous, I don't know how in Allah's (SWT) name I'm going to get through the actual application process.

just think of it as your first night after getting hitched take it slow and nice. take everything else out of your mind, and put all your thoughts and feelings towards the paper. don't leave anything out or behind. keep editing your paper til its concise and crisp. put emphasis on WHY you should get it.

I'm only asking a simple question, not writing a full fledged essay.
