Huge Convention in Minneapolis

The event will address raids on Somali businesses, the consequences of sensational news reports on “the missing,” intimidation by law enforcement agents, and other issues impacting Somali Minnesotans. Despite recent challenges, the Somali community remains resilient and continues to engage and exist in this state as Somali-Minnesotans. Speakers will address the dual identities Somali-Americans possess, and shed light fluid, transnational identities Somalis maintain.

Finally, the convention will address the significance of Islam to Somalis, and the notion of the mosque as a healing center for the community.

Speakers and poets will represent diverse professional and life experiences.
