Im so shocked to see this being practiced in Canada..What are your thoughts on this?..Sometimes it seems men are given more rights in Islam.

Polygamy is xalaal...we leave it at that.Our personal opinions should't matter, allah did't force any woman to share her husband.It's up to you.

Men are not given any more rights than woman.
Sure they can marry more than one woman...but islamically speaking, they have to prove that they can provide for each woman both financially, emotionally and physically equal. But in our culture, its not the case thats why you feel the way you do.
Dont blame Islam...blame the culture.

I dont think theres anythign wrong with people practicing it in Canada.

Islam allows men to marry four wives, but seriously some abuse the privilege.

..if you think men are given more rights than women in Islam then you lack any basic teachings of Islam

Im not questioning our religion..just asking some questions..Why is it that a raped women needs like 3 witnesses for her accusation to be taken seriously..these are legitimate questions people..please take no offense.

Polygamy was legalized to serve 4 functions, non of which are practiced today (except for maybe a few God fearing men):

1-To care for Muslim widows who lost their husbands who went off to fight Jihaad.

2-To care for Muslim women whose husbands refused to embrace Islam.

3-To care for Muslim children who were left fatherless because of Jihaad.

4-To take care of Muslim women who are crippled, blind or suffer from serious ailments and would not find a husband.

Don't let the actions of a few men who have no respect for the rules of Islam corrupt your judgement and make you dislike something which Allah has made lawful out of his wisdom. Everything in Islam serves a purpose.
