The qat issue reminds me of the corporate outsourcing and profit-taking that has destroyed the American manufacturing economy. I suspect it is sustainable within Somalia only because of remittances and other subsized funding. It makes far better economic sense to get Erigavo going as a qat plantation or rely on locally produced rum and hashisha. (yes )

The reliance on qat is more problematic for a lot of reasons.
