Reer Isaaq wealth in Kenya

Post by Lord Diplock »

I just came back from Kenya and naturally, I went to all of our deegans in NFD (except Wajir district). What really suprise is the wealth in these deegans.

Garissa city: one word to describe what is taking place in this city: WOW! There are alot of money in this town, alot of our people are settling there, some from Ogadenia and others from Southern Somalia.

all the other areas are also booming, Modagashe, Dadaad, Liboi, and Masalani, look out for the latter town, in the next 5 yrs, it is going to be the new Garissa. Cabdalle and our Reer Maxamed from everywhere are investing in that town big time.

What really suprised me is the Reer Issaqs in Namanga, a town on the Kenya-Tanzania border. one guy, by the name of Haji Yassin (naturally from Dhagaxbuur originally) owns half of that town. but there are others there as well. These guys are hardcore Ogaden. Haji Yassin was opening a new hotel in Eastleigh when I was there (Kilamanjaro Hotel, all his businesses are called Kilimanjaro), and he invited us for the opening day... He was taking the mickey out of the Sijui Ogadeens, like how we did not know good food.

good to see alot of Reer Isaaq here,by the way, how comes all the Reer Issaqs here (and the one I know in London) are Reer Haaruuns, where are the famous Reer Calis? are they hunting the Xabashis downs?

Saaalam Aleikum

People it is good to hear all positive progresses that we are able to share, but it shouldn't be narrated in a clanwise way. I don't care who is who or if s/he is a hawiye or darood but if s/he is developing her/his life I will admire for that.

Somali is Somali and this kinda of clan talks must be kept behind the bars. It doesn't help our cause if we are Somali maryooleys.

Moreover, the legitimate struggle which is going in our lands doesn't need a tribe or clan wise oreinted men, but it needs any mankind who can understand the meaning of freedom and how to acheive it in that part of the world.

Have a good day mate!

Welcome back L.Diplock  ..

sounds like you had good time in Kenya..siju ogadens are economically doing well..specially in the real state and money remittances...the Asians/Indians are no longer the elite of the business in kenya..Somali populated Eastleigh in Nairobi is the largest retail concentration market in Africa...

I am looking forward to my trip to Eastleigh this year.

The Kenyan government needs to adress this problem.
Eastleigh is sometimes referred to as a 'city within a city." for simply having all the amenities of a city. The unfortunate thing is that Eastleigh nowadays has no government or any sort of sound public services from sewage to proper schools. This section of Nairobi deserves even its own higher education and a major medical facility and some sort of government offices for the simple fact of having such a huge population.

Lord-Diplock, Wlc back Bro. I heard the same about Kenya too, the business sector is basically run by Somalis and it is not only Nairobi but pretty much every city. There is an accountant guy I know who purchased gas stations in a town between Nairobi & Mombasa and now owns few other stations. He quit his job and went there to run his business. There are many success stories ranging from Restaurant, hotels to multi-million dollar real estates which Somalis run. In Mombasa, I hear the Somalis run the import & export. With all the success there, this is still Africa so security is still a concern. I have being to West Africa and I was blown away by how developed these countries are but really Kenya sounds a good trip to get a real exposure, the next best thing to the Somali way of life. If I was to go, this will be my Itinerary:
Fly to Nairobi --->Drive--->Mombasa---->Malindi----->Lamu---->Ijaara---->Garissa----->Bura---->Border town---Badadhe---->Kismayo---Fly----Nairobi

But I don't think I can make that trip safely at this time so I will see how things play on the Somalia side for now....

Btw, any pics you can share with us on ur trip? also how does my Itinerary look? reasonable?

its good to see somali's in kenya doing great for themselve's, especially in the garissa and NFD....
- i think theirs less corruption and more accountability In NFD nowadays, with the recent election of Mp farah and so forth.

So you saying Jaahuur intuu dibada iska aaday oo dantiisa qabsaday ayuu intii reeraha ka hadhay dabka ku gurayaa oo amxaaro iyo cadow bahaleed afka ooga galinayaa?

That is what you feeding us right? You are not aware what you doing to the halganka. Therefore, kala qaad qaadka reerka midka ah xagee ku baraty? Ma caruurtan dabacayuun ee meesha soo gasha ayaa ku shaashaysay?

Quraansaar ha laguu la ordo sidani si maahee

Daacad in ay kaa tahay waan u jeedaa laakiin waa in aad isla joogto ood ogaataa what you doing to/for the halgan.

My point is lets concentrate on the important matters instead of naming clans & subclans. It has no merits to our cause/discussions.

Peace

Let me address some of your observations and questions.

I am not Reer Isaaq, I am Cabdalle Tolomogge.

Somalis in Kenya are doing well under the current gov't, but let me make this salient point: most Somalis (and Ogadeenis) people in Kenya are in dire straits, they live in abject poverty of unbelievable level. A minority are doing extremely well these days some taking advantage on corruption of unbelievable proportion.

The famed Farah Maalim (MP for Lagdheera) has changed apparently, he is not seeing anybody these days , even his Reer Xaawis ppl. My uncle, Mohamed Yussuf Haji is even worse, he is totally immersed in top level politics in Kenya, dinning and travelling with the Kikuyu mafia.

I took some pics in the places I visited, alas, they are just a handful of private ones. And my Cawlyahan cousin deleted some of the photos I took in Bulla Ijaara (Garissa).

If you have any question about Nairobi (if you're interested in buying a place) or about Garissa, plz dont hesitate to ask.

But the way, what is Jahuur?
