I've noticed today how Asians iyo Carabta their women dance from their upper body, but African women dance from their lower body.

Have you ladies noticed this too?

Well....Giriama women in East Africa dance with their shoulders as do a lot of Ethiopians and others. Also the Maasai women just stand on one spot with their upper bodies heaving up and down. In belly-dancing and traditional Indian dance there is a lot of leg movement. Man, I hadn't realised I was paying that much attention

no, but the other nite i went to a haitian weddin and everyone kept dancin from the behind. and ironically, everyone was dancin.....even the kids. funny thing, all the songs were for couples and u have to kinda hold each other and dance closely.

Lakin it depends on the music - put on some banadiri song and you just have to niiki (unless someone explains the meaning of the words ) But then again like Suga said...I guess Haitians will niiki to any beat

The reason why I asked is 'cause, I was at my friend's place, and there were 5 of us girls.

1 Egyptian, 1 Turkish, 1 Asian, and 1 Ghanian and moi. So we thought we'd have a dance competition, lol. Each person had to do their traditional dance. So the Egyptian iyo Turkish started bellydancing, the Asian started moving her arm/shoulders - some Bollywood thing, marka the Ghanian started shaking what her momma gave her (lol) marka it was my turn, and I wanted to do buranbuur jump, and they're like I thought your traditional dance was more salsa like? They think our traditional dance is niiko - I was like excuse me, but we can move our upper body and legs to you know.. Anyhow, they wanted to see niiko, so I showed them!

I just jump around like a loonie, lol. But it's amazing what you can learn if you put your mind to it.

I don't think anyone can beat me in niikis.. I kid I kid, but I can't compare our styles were different..

It all depends on what is playing, but I will most likely work it down. BTW I jumped during baranbuur
