Re: Proper English..
I was actually taught by my English teacher that although there might be different regional accents there is no such thing as proper/right/wrong English - language is a form of expression and you can use it to express yourself in whichever way suits you best - she had a point nevertheless you can't right 'wag1' or 'dude' in a professional email no matter how much it suits you....she never taught us that

im not talking about accents of course there are different types of regional accent but its more of an grammar issue. I mean you can have a southern or paki accent and still speak proper English with out all the unnecessary um's and slang.

Non ethnic ingriis always distort the language into something else, even north american and caribbean madows who have no other language to blend it with still use a pidgeon type of english from slave times that has been passed down for generations. Funny how jamaicans, and west africans speaking in english have a similar patois.

Region affects dialect affects pronunciation affects grammar affects spelling and how 'proper' your English is. They don't actually teach grammar in schools in England, I know people in Uni who don't know what prepositions are.Xamari_76 wrote:im not talking about accents of course there are different types of regional accent but its more of an grammar issue. Nah I just don't understand. For example why are you singling out 'caribbean madows' and why would you assume that they had no other language to blend English with?Aliyah99 wrote:BV

Re: Proper English..
Ask or Ax. not bad.
Other detrimental phrases are: "We finna", "imma'nuh" "Prolly Gon'" "iz you" and even this one I know all ya'll use: Aight" lol
Put together in typical sentences: "Imma'nuh Ax you this one last time, Is you comin or is you aint? We finna go up to the store. Prolly gon go right now. Cum'moon, nigga. Aight then Wun!." LOL.
Sad part is....it aint just AA kids that catch up on that shit. Its our FOB kids too, who were never really taught the proper way to say it to begin with.
