IS THE NIQAB COMPULSORY................. plz help a sister

I just wanted 2 ask if the Niqab is compulsory/ the full-on covering up

I have read books which say it is.... books which say it isnt.
Im not sure as i am trying to practice islam but im not sure which book is right plzzz help a sister in need!

aslaamu alaikum sister, i have read up on it too and like you i'm in two minds. some scholars say its wajeb while other say its mustahaba. its taken months to search if it is or not and i haven't come to a decision. But the majority of the view is it is mustahaba, but the majority is not always correct. it a grey matter really and if something is doubtful the prophet advise us to leave whats doubtful to whats not. if you feel you want to wear it go ahead! nothing should stop you at the end of the day is more reward and every little reward counts and its the little deeds which means more.

i suggest you to read the book "from my sister lips" by naima B. roberts i'm hoping to get it, it may answer the questions your seeking. all the best sister.

ther are more hadeeths 2 say that the covering of the face is compulsory.
and the sheicks that say its not compulsory have weak hadeeths.

Abaayo indha shareerka waa sunna, and it is only waajib during a war. and the women must wear it, when the men return, if they loose.


but its a sunna not wajib.

wallal you cant just say things you have no evidence for- when you come with such a strong statement you shoud bring hadeeths.

sunnah- means what the messenger and his companions used to do- some are wajib (faral) and some are voluntary.

Salam Alekum sister well there are so many opinions on the subject.
For all the fuss about whether niqab is fard, there is no dispute over the fact that niqab is part of Islam, mustahabb. A sister that wears it will get definetly get rewarded! Even the scholars that think is not a must advice it. Basically by wearing it only good will come out of it so go for it sis.

Narrated Safiya bint Shaiba (Radhiallaahu Ánha) "Aisha (Radhiallaahu Ánha) used to say: "When (the Verse): "They should draw their veils over their necks and bosoms," was revealed, (the ladies) cut their waist sheets at the edges and covered their faces with the cut pieces.

sainab i hope you got all your answers. i heard is not compulsory too, just sunnah. i know this friend of mine who wanted to wear it, but her mom refused it, because its dangerous esp. living in the UK, plus she was working and at college, both which were far from home, so i guess is not a must!
