Asalaam Alaikum all :P

Living and Dying with Grace- Counsels of Hadhrat Ali - translated by Thomas Cleary

Hadrat 'Ali was the son-in-law of the Prophet Mohammed, and is seen as one of the greatest and most revered figures of Islam; a warrior, statesman, scholar, husband and father; a paragon of compassion and virtue. These 400 aphoristic and poetic teachings, in the tradition of Bathasar Gracian's The Art of Worldly Wisdom and Lao Tzu's Tao Teh Ching, show how everyday life cultivates wisdom and well-being as the key to success in this life and after life. "God, the Glorified, will admit to Paradise anyone, at will, for truthfulness of intention and goodness of innermost thoughts." The teachings of Hadrat 'Ali offer a path to living and dying with grace.

Paddington NO lol.. This is not a sectarian book. :P Have you flicked through the pages? Tell me what you make of it.

Advo I love works of wisdom by whomever and since I am Muslim of course I'm very fond of this particular book.
I personally think you will benefit from it, you need to escape your ghetto lifestyle and your obsession with err __''booty'' __ in short you need to see the light!

I did. Good stuff but not really my cup of tea. Translations often lose some of the verve of the original. But Ali Bin Abi Talib (karam Allah wajhah) was a wise man who wrote some amazing poetry.

I only asked about the chest beating because of the use of the word 'Hadrat'.

Paddington Bear- Are you familiar with his poetry? Can you read Arabic?

Hadhrat/Hazrat is not used by 'chest beaters' they use 'Imam'. That title is used by mainstream Muslims especially those from a South Asian background.

BC,
Guilty on both counts.

Hazrat/Hadrat is mainly used (in my expirence) by Pakis and Indians. They many I met who used it where chest beaters (the ones that use Imam are the Arabs - chest beating Arabs of course). I may, of course, be wrong here. But it's such a trivial thing that I wouldn't mind it.
