I have noticed that there is a need for a Somali style Big Brother/Big Sister associations to help out young Somali kids. Its quite amazing to see how few role models these children have. Some children lack any role models who went to college and work. Others simply don't find anyone who can understand the complexities of growing up in the West: peer pressure etc.
This is the Big Brother Big Sisters Club of America:

Our role models don't need to be in front of us.
Children need to learn about living embodiments of nobility and perseverance like Shaykh Usama, Shaykh Zawahiri, Amir Mullah Omar and for examples closer to home Shaykh Abu Mansur and Shaykh Abu Zubayr.
We also have to keep alive the memories of recently deceased Shaheed's such as Shaykh Zarqawi (AUN).
Greater knowledge of historical figures such as Amir Khalid Wallid, Shaykh A-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah Imam Ibrahim Ghazi, Salahudeen all the Sahabah etc. is also required.
And the single most important figure in history, our blessed Prophet Muhammed (SAW).
What is also necessary is a huge literacy drive in Arabic for the entire Somali nation. Those in the diaspora can pay for tutoring, etc., but Somalis back home will be given lessons free of charge when Shabab is in complete control insha'allah.

You stated Somali children lack role models, I beg to differ.
The Muslim youth of today have plenty of icons. They just need to know where to look.
