Conversing with a Southern Sudanese About Somalia & Arabs

Post by AbdiWahab252 »

I am in a store and the associate who is helping me out is from Southern Sudan. He asks me if I am from Sudan to which I reply no. I tell him I am Somali. He asks me if I speak Arabic ? I say no. He wonders how an Arab Nation like Somalia doesn't speak Arabic. I tell him that I am not Arab and have a native language called Somali. He is very puzzled because he knows SOmalia is in the Arab league.

I tell him that I am about as Arab as he is and that an Arabist regime put Somalia in the Arab League. I explain that there are some Somalis who say they are Arabs and others who are native Africans like me.

His next question is do those Arabs harass the native Africans. I laugh and tell him that they used to until the native Africans rose up and deposed of the Arabist regime. He then proceeds to explain how the Arabs harass the Southern Sudanese and the war. I told him that Southern Sudan should become an independent country free of Arab domination.

So why the hell do Arabs assume that Somalis speak Arabic and are Arabs yet are surprised to find out that a vast majority of Somalis don't speak Arabic ?

Luggoyo,

Its not my fault that Arabists put SOmalia into the Arab League and perpetuate an image of Somalia being an Arab state when 75% are NAtive Africans

Claims not facts.

I don't know and I even care less if the story of the Arab thief "Dhaarid" aka Daarod is true or not, but in real life, to be considered an Arab, you have to speak the language (as mother tongue) as a nation, not few who learned.

Somalis are as Africans as Dikembe Matumbe whether they like it or not.

P.S. The word "Dhaarid" in Arabic means the chased one, the outcast or the pariah
