Oppositions' Unrealistic demands a precursor for instability

"We categorically reject the following demands for:-

1. Creating a new Voter List; election to be postponed again (third time) and a new election date be determined by a new Technical Team yet to be named; refusing Interpeace to be reinstated.

2. President’s term to be extended once again to match new election date.

3. Retaining the current Election Commissioners. "

I can't help but laugh at the pure ludicrous nature of this manefesto of Kulmiye Party. If it shows anything it manefests the state of confusion and lost which is apparently clear from the current political adventures of Kulmiye's top leaders.

The Election Commisioners are composed of 7 members of which 2 members were solely selected by the opposition, 2 members selected by the Guurti and 2 members selected by the President, 1 member is selected by the Lower House. Eventhough that is case, yet again the opposition is damning the Election Commisioners and praising external actors such as Interpeace - The same orginisation which is credited to the utter failure of the voter registration and the aftermath failure of the so called "SERVER" to clean up the mess in the database.

More of the confusion of the opposition can be seen when, on the one hand, they claim "the introduction of a new technical team at this late stage of the game is deemed unnecessary and possibly harmful to the process." But on the other hand they want the Current Election Commissioners disbanded and a new Election Commisioners installed. Maana waalan mise cadan ayaa laga heesaya?


Three things won't be up for negotiations:

1. Using the raped voter registration that Kulmiye claims was "certified by Interpeace" - as if Interpeace is some sort of an institution in SL constitution
2. Desbanding the Election Commisioners
3. The Polls will open on 27 of Sep as scheduled and will be conducted similar to the 2005 elections

If the Opposition group don't want that, they can simply refuse to part take, and they are elegible to refuse to part take anything no one is gonna force them to take part in the elections.

Even the Minister for State for Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia sees the opposition's demands as a laughing-stock of sorts.

If as the opposition wants a voter registration system is to be used for the elections, two things must take place.

1. A new voter registration system needs to be organised and this time there will be no role for Interpeace. The process will be Somaliland driven and owned.
2. The Polls must be delayed until such time that voter registration system is finalised.

If those two points are not achieved then the only other alternative is go into the Polls on Sep 27th and conduct the process in the same way like the election of 2005.

Forget the election in September, Your god Riyaale has failed to deliver upon what's been requested of him. He got a extention in office because there were problems with the server and voters registration list wouldn't be ready on time.

Only a deranged, bewildered and confused person would come to the conclusion that together Afcas from East Burco and Uunsi boys from Gabiley would be enough to out-number Habaryoonis in terms of numerical supremecy. But I won't disturb your wishes, you can raid them in droves for all you wish. But just be prepared for a harsh slap when reality hits your face.

But one thing I would like to remind you is that, Siilaanyo will be fuming when he looses yet anothe spectecular election. The reason won't be because of the lost itself, the reason will be the fact that the sand that he thaught he was standing on will eventually shift right before his own eyes. Silaanyo has yet to learn the true nature of Reer Gabiley, a self-interested clan whose end-game is justified by their ability to opportunistically change with the wind as they come to realise that the Habaryoonis mighty machine is no way be able to be defeated by Afcas and Uunsi coalition. So be prepared for a shocker.

That being said, let me tell you one thing that will absolutely won't be used with 110% iron-clad guaranteed rejection, is the current voter list. It will be a cold day in hell if that is used. Mark my words.

If Interpeace wants to return to the country, they have to write an apology to the Somaliland people explaining why they done what they did and they need to write down a new terms of engagement with the government that they will never do it again. That being the case, the government will make sure that Interpeace will never have a role in any future elections real or imagined.

So where does this leave us? If a voter registration system is required, a new and a more transparent one needs to be organised. That means the polls will have to be rescheduled to a later date and the government needs to have its term extended until such time that the voter registration system takes place.

There is no room here for a care-taker government. Another dreamed-up wishful thinking from Kulmiye's lost and confused leaders. That is not something that will be acceptable under our constitution and will not happen.

If the opposition don't want the government's term to be extended well, the election will take place without voter registration system.

In any case, Kulmiye knows they are at a dead-end. That is why they are running around to all corners like a headless chicken.
