Nationalism Is Unislamic, Ref: Khutbatul Wada' (The Last...
Sermon)
Assalamu Alaikum,
.........................
O People
Lend me an attentive ear, for I know not whether after this year, I shall ever be amongst you again. Therefor listen to what I am saying to you very carefully and take these words to those who could not be present here today.
O People
Just as you regard this month, this day, this city as sacred, so regard the life and property of every Muslim as a sacred trust. Return the goods entrusted to you to their rightful owners. Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you. Remember that you will indeed meet your Lord, and that He will indeed reckon your deeds. Allah has forbidden you to take usury (interest); therefore all interest obligation shall henceforth be waived. Your capital, however, is yours to keep. You will neither inflict nor suffer any inequity.
Allah has Judged that there shall be no interest and that all interest due to Abbas Ibn ‘Abd al Muttalib (the Prophet's uncle) shall henceforth be waived.
Beware of Satan for the safety of your religion. He has lost all hope that he will ever be able to lead you astray in big things, so beware of following him in small things.
O People
It is true that you have certain rights in regard to your women, but they also have rights over you. Remember that you have taken them as your wives, only under Allah's trust and with His permission. If they abide by your right then to them belongs the right to be fed and clothed in kindness. Do treat you women well and be kind to them, for they are your partners and committed helpers. And it is your right that they do not make friends with anyone of whom you do not approve, as well as never to be unchaste.
O People
Listen to me in earnest, worship Allah, say your five daily prayers (Salah), fast during the month of Ramadan, and give your wealth in Zakat.
Perform Hajj if you can afford to.
All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over a black, nor a black has any superiority over a white- except by piety and good action. LEARN THAT EVERY MUSLIM IS A BROTHER TO EVERY MUSLIM AND THAT THE MUSLIMS CONSTITUTE ONE BROTHERHOOD. Nothing shall be legitimate to a Muslim, which belongs to a fellow Muslim unless it was given freely and willingly. Do not therefor, do injustice to yourselves.
Remember one day you will appear before Allah and answer for your deeds. So beware, do not stray from the path of righteousness after I am gone. People, no prophet or apostle will come after me and no new faith will be born. Reason well therefore, O people, and understand words which I convey to you. I leave behind me two things, the Quran and the Sunnah (Hadith), and if you follow these you will never go astray. All those who listen to me shall pass on my words to others and those to others again; and may the last ones understand my words better than those who listened to me directly. Be my witness, O Allah, that I have conveyed your message to your people."

The topic and the title of this thread somehow aren't congruent. Nationalism as depicted by some Muslims isn't a threat to the unity of Umah. It binds us advance our national consciousness and work together resolve legitimate disputes of ownership. Who owns where?
The truth is that if you don't help your own people and give them a priority whether it is civic matters or foreign occupation, no one else will come and help you. If you ever think of a Muslims from different country shall rescue you, i call that a dream and living in fantasy.
You should be able to differentiate religion from ideology. If you say that nationalism shouldn't be practiced, I think that is an ideology

Assalamu Alaikum Somali2003,
"The truth is that if you don't help your own people and give them a priority whether it is civic matters or foreign occupation, no one else will come and help you. If you ever think of a Muslims from different country shall rescue you, i call that a dream and living in fantasy"
See, this is the problem with the Ummah these days...every single individul is only interested in the affairs of his/her own nation. For example, there were a lot of somalis that protested when the 6 somali brothers were beheaded (not that I'm saying this was bad or anything like that) but why aren't they any somalis that protest for our brothers and sisters in Iraq or palestine? or why weren't they any other nations that protested against the injustice that was done to those 6 brothers?
If every single Muslim strives to unite his/her OWN nation then how on earth can our Ummah unite?
During the Prophet (saw) time, every single Muslim used to help eachother regardless of colour, nationality..etc. That's how the Muslims back then actually reached somewhere and had non-muslims scared to death that no one used to oppress or torture them! They were UNITED has brothers and sisters in FAITH.
Don't you think this is what we (Muslims, not just somalis) need right now...TO BE UNITED HAS ONE NATION (MUSLIMS)?

You right sister. Every Muslim is obligated by Allah to help his Muslim brothers and sisters to strengthen our faith and purpose. However, there is a change of time which has direct conflict with that dynamic thinking of Muslims around the world. The Muslims barely do good deeds in good faith. As our Prophet already told us, Islam came as something strange and it will revert to as something strange. Hence, the reemergence of a powerful Ummah is far-fetched sis except i, f i am not making mistakes, appearing as the signs before the day of judgement.
I like to share with you this Hadith by Hudeeyfah ibn Al Yaman said, " The Prophet (PBUH) said,
"Islam will become worn out like clothes are, until there will be no-one knows what fasting, prayer, charity, and rituals are. The Qur'an will disappear in one night, and no Ayah will be left on earth. Some groups of old people will be left who will say, We heard our fathers saying La Ilaha Illa Allah, so we repeat it."
Hence due to prevalence of Ignorance in the world, according to the Hadith, these old people will be saved from Hell by just repeating the Confession of the Oneness of Allah which in turn provides to them blessing and guidance towards Allah.
My Allah Save the Muslims whereever they are.

Coud you explain what this bit is trying to state brother/sister? So the Qur'an will completely vanish?
This hadith is Sahih right? Sorry, it's just that I have read some of the signs that will appear when the Day of Judgement is near and I haven't heard of this one

If Muhammed was alive today, he'd be a nationalist.
He preferred his own tribe (the Quraish), to all others.
He was especially afraid for them, and strived to bring them to the fold for a decade before he gave up and went to Medina.
He dedicated at least one sura to the Quraish.
Before he died, he requested that Pagans should not live in his "nation", the Hijaz.
As soon as he died, Muslims started pickering over which SUB tribe of the Quraish should lead, and even over what dialect the Qur'an should be written in.
All four of the "Rightly Guided" Caliphs were Quraish, not to mention the Ummayad Dynasty.
At the time of Muhammed's death, there were only a few non Arabs who were Muslims. If Muhammed was sent to save the WHOLE world, you'd think he'd make an effort to take the message of Allah to others.
Why, if Muhammed wasn't overly concerned about the blight of the Saxons or Mayans and how they would all go to Hell because they didn't practise Islam, should a Somali cry over the self-flagellation of Arabs when his own people need him?
