I am reading, "America's Secret War" By George Friedman. Its a good book and gives a good perspective of the 4th world war between the US and AL Qaeda: its roots, strategies of both sides and tactics. Its quite a good read
As founder and chairman of Stratfor Forecasting ("predictive, insightful global intelligence," its Web site states), Friedman is in the business of gathering information and predicting outcomes of global conflicts for businesses and governments. Following up on The Future of War, he assesses the causes, players and parameters of what he calls "the fourth global war"—September 11th and its aftermath—from the perspective of the company. Much of what’s here will be familiar to readers of the 9/11 report or the reams of news coverage over the last three years. Yet Friedman’s stock-taking exercise is compelling as a distillation of corporate intelligence, where the spin is less about maintaining the image of particular politicians or governments, and more about being right so that money can be made.

I just recently finished reading: Confessions of an Economic Hitman. It was a good read and a must for anyone raised in the West (if you grew up in Africa, you know about these hitmen and the IMF).

Shirib,
Yes, he writes about Somalia as being a defining moment for Al Qaeda who saw Clinton's retreat from Somalia as a sign of weakness. He also stated that the intervention was a strategically hard to define by the US. Was it to feed Somalis or restore order ? If order, a ProAmerican one ? He takes on the perspective that ANY intervention is always political and always helps one side. The American claims of being a neutral party in Somalia was bogus.

SomaliStar,
You will enjoy America's Secret War. The author makes a case for both sides and doesn't poke fun or use insults.

Shirib,
It is. The General (AUN) opposed the Ikhwan
However, the author makes a good point about interventions how its perceived around the globe. He also speaks about alliances (how they are always temporary because allies unite against a common foe and once its defeated, they break up).
