Starting a militia is easy.

All you need to do is go back to an impoverished tuulo
in Somalia and wave a few hundred dollar bills in the air.

After the entire villages population swarm around you ,just pick out the most desperate looking of the bunch ( look out for blood shot eyes ) .

I think Al Shabaab pay their fighters a $100 a month.

If you can't afford to pay that much ,you just need to convince them you're the Mahdi .

I don't think I need to even begin to approach $100. It's f-king Somalia. I was thinking maybe 50 or so, maximum.

I'll pull my fighters from Ogaden because they are particularly desperate and unintelligent. Maybe position myself as the second coming of Axmad Gurey? Anti-Habash sentiment is bound to get me a couple hundred foot-soldiers at least.

I've heard they're particularly cheap in Pakistan and the build quality is decent, superior to the models floating around Somalia at least.

I jotted down some quick figures

Let's say I start with 300k (I'm low balling myself, but let's start with a conservative estimate) in pounds that converts roughly to 490,0000 USD. Lets just say 500,000.

According to my sources, a Russian/Chinese AK can be bought for 150 USD in Xamar. I plan to allocate the majority of my budget to weapons, so I'll spend around 180,000 USD to purchase 12000 AK 47's. Let's say I spend a further 10,000 on ammunition making it a round 190,000

That's weaponry provided and 310,000 left. I'll probably pay a few street urchins (maybe 100 or so?) to spread news of my services, particularly the $50 per month tag line. 1 buck apiece for the kids = $100.

20 dollars per month (with bonuses available) will enable to to hire one soldier year around for 240 dollars. 100 troops will cost 24,000 per year. 24,000 x 10 = 240,000 meaning I can hire 1000 troops year around for 240,000.

Leaving me with 70,000 for propaganda, bribes, etc.

Very rough sketch, but you see where I'm going with this.
