Sister Amat-Allah (a question on Sami Yusuf)

Post by *Proud_Muslimah* »

Assalamu Alaikum,

Sis, I heard that it is not OK to listen to his nasheeds since he uses "Musical instruments". What's your view on this?

I have to agree, his nasheeds are a bit awkward compared to normal nasheeds by Yusuf Islam, Zain Bhikha, Dawud Wharnsby...etc but Allahu Al'im

Any ideas?

I don’t see anything wrong with it, at the end of the day he is promoting the love of Islam in peoples hearts, and he is doing it in beauty n poetry and in a form that applies to ppl especially the younger generation, who are shadowed by their society and wat their peers are into.i know certain instruments are discouraged in some hadiths but by using instruments the music/message is reaching people that it might not have reached if instruments were not used.( I know ppl who have reverted to Islam cuz of Islamic nasheeds…Music is powerful dawah tool) In this case it is better for people to listen to music by Muslims than to listen to all this other western music focused on corrupting and exploiting people. I listen to semi’s music and it really helps me to strengthen my iman and faith, helps me to reflect…I don’t see how that could be haram.

I don’t even know what instruments are ‘haram’ ppl always just say musical instruments never defining

Assalamu Alaikum,

"I don’t see anything wrong with it, at the end of the day he is promoting the love of Islam in peoples hearts"

But don't you think he should (if he is using musical instruments) do that in a more Islamic way. I mean, since kids (as well as teenagers) are the ones who listen to nasheeds more..they will get the idea of musical instruments being HALAL which is NOT. Do you get what I mean?

Allahu Al'im though

All Musical instruments are haram (except that little drum..I think it's called duff or something similar to that) are allowed as far as I know
