THE IMPORTANCE OF OUR LANGUAGE!

Post by surrender »

who here speaks, reads and writes somali fluently? how important would you say our language is?

Our language is dying as it is, is taking is last breath lol, to have English side by side with our weak language and/or Arabic as second and third languages means more people will want to learn those languages, as they are obvious choices and nothing is wrong in learning those languages after all they are two of the most spoken language in the world, but few decades down the line and I’m sure our language will be forgotten, we need to find a way to put our language on top of the list, teach it at top universities around the world, have signs in Somali in places like China, Germany, Saudi Arabia, USA and Dubai, than people will want to learn our language, and few decades down the line, Somali language will be one of the most spoken language in Africa-insha'alaah-THAT is my hope anyways.

Why I’m saying this is because mother tongue is important we should encourage our people to learn the Somali language; even here in the UK the disappointed factor is they teach Hindu, Punjabi, Urdu etc etc at school but not Somali. We should teach young children mother tongue because it would help them to develop confidence, self-esteem and their unique identity within a multicultural society that we live in.

Furthermore until our language takes it off, as one of the best, most known/spoken language in Africa (at least) we should Emphasise our language more than others that are taught in Somalia, so that include Arabic and English
In addition foreigners who come to visit puntland should be made compulsory to learn our language, this way our language will have strong sense of leadership in East Africa. Just a language will do wonders, look at Swahili, man! You know how many whites & Asians I’ve say they know Swahili, I know many different countries speak Swahili but in time if we keep teaching and have Somali version of everything that is know to man kind, more countries will adopt our language. Few hundred yrs maybe, but in time they will.

Point is, is important to have our language as the centre of our community after all is language that we develop our thoughts, shape our experience, explore our customs, structure our community, construct our laws, articulate our values and give expression to our hopes and ideas.

So people we have to find ways of teaching, learning our language, writing about it, so our future generation don’t have to be language less, we homeless as it is!.

I don’t know maybe I just love Af Somali too much! :|

Since the early 1980s, Arabs have spend millions of dollars invested in Somalia to make Arabic the first language. As you can see their hardwork might be working, when you look at Wikipedia after ever Somali translation there is a an Arabic translation (what is that about?). Arabic is not nor has it ever been the second language of Somalia.

Somalis need to be speak Somali, or else nothing else will be left. Reading the Qur'an in its right language is needed, but outside that spectrum I do not think it is neccessary.

I speak intermediate Somali but I can write Somali much better. It is sad to say Swahili is my first language. I took Somali language classes with white students and become well versed at least in conversational Somali.

No one is crying. The fact is, to write something like that is insulting. Those people are Somalis, and are suffering by the hands of a regime that holds them hostage. You come here and cry tears when anyone says anything about Arabs, but choose to disrespect your own Somalis. You find it to be funny I do not! It is the SOMALI REGION OF ETHIOPIA. I wish it was never called "Ogaden" because it ties them back to qabiil. That is why the British did that, to divide the people!

I only speak it.

It isn't necessary. Arabic needs to take precedence over it.

Monkey, again you are not a Somali. Therefore, what you says holds no merit. By, the way do you do anything else with your life? You seem to be on the forum a lot.
