Abu Muhammad al Maqdisi the Jordanian scholar was offered the many things of the world to give up his values and ideals. Maqdisi explains that he wrote the poem after the Jordanian authorities refused to let him either visit his dying father or speak with him on the phone. The poem, which was composed after his father's death, is titled "A Return Forward." In it, Al-Maqdisi describes his refusal to accept a purported offer made to him by the authorities:
"They said: 'Renounce [your views]; many sheikhs [already] have... What was appropriate for years no longer pleases our enlightened generation. Renounce [your views], and you will be generously rewarded with material [benefits]. In return, you shall [also be granted unlimited freedom to] speak [publicly]. Media... Internet, and TV will broadcast it... and if [you do] not, prison cells and affliction [shall be your reward]. Your father is sick and you shall not see him, and if he dies, it [shall be] your crime."
Al-Maqdisi's alleged reply was: "Prison is sweeter to me, and his darkness is light [for me]... My suffering for the sake of religion is sweet... [Though] my duty towards my family is dear [to me], [my] duty towards religion takes priority..."
Professor Sami al 'Ryaan who is incarcerated in the US due to terrorism and has wrote the poem "He must be guilty":
"Innocent he has been indicted, the general decided, the paper incited he must be guilty
The agent presumed, the prosecutors consumed, the judge assumed "were sure he's guilty"!
The bigots are infused, the TV is ammused, the public is confused, but trust us he's guilty
Doesnt matter what we saw, we'll simply change the Law, call it the final straw, we think he's guilty!
We have him on a call, it maybe to a congrssional hall, our goal is to make him fall, because we believe he's guilty
The trial will be perfect, when guilty is the verdict, even if the evidence is suspect, never mind we find him guilty
But he only spoke his mind, to people of every kind, justice maybe blind, but its been hard to find, because he's INNOCENT
Strip search, his body was built, his head was bald, his heart was dead, his face was cold, his eyes were fierce, moustache was thick, he lifted up his finger, I was his pick:
"Take of your jumper and shirt and boxers." "But Ive only been to the library, have not seen or met anybody!" "Strip your going to Strip"!!!!! And dont you dare move your lip!
"Take of your jumper and shirt and boxers. Show me your tongue. Give me a cough, deep from your lung. Hold your buttocks and bend over, turn around, lift it up and stay sober."
THe routine is to humiliate, to scar and intimidate, his search took an eternity, in the name of security, they strip you of your dignity
Shake down, they came monday morning in front of my door at 6 foot and 4, "come up, shut up, cough up" they said. "Turn around, back up, hold down your head".
They joked and laughed. "Its time for a shake down, control destroy and dont you dare frown". "Contraband Contraband" he yelled from the side. "My heart just sank he's found my hide.
Extra banklet, extra sheet, boxers he's thrown, plastic spoon, peanut butter and a picture Id drawn.
"My heart was beating faster than before, if he finds it my life isnt the same anymore. Seconds and minutes were passing like years, frustrated, worried and crying without tears. Undaunted they left, the cell upside down, startled it looked, like a tornado hit town. But I calmed and laughed and thanked the Lord, my pencil is safe and mightier than the sword
