Introduction to Ogaden 101

Post by Queen_Arawello »

If Thermopylae is a sentimentally motivated toponym symbolizing Greek opposition to the Achaemenid Iranian invasion, if Kerbala symbolizes Shia sacrifice in the Name of Truth and against the brutality of illegal rulers, if Stalingrad epitomizes Soviet defiance of the Nazi armies, all three names have been eclipsed in our days by Africa’s Ogaden where an epic battle has been taking place between the brave forces of the ONLF, fighting against Abyssinian tanks and aircraft to preserve their fatherland from the Abyssinian bestiality, and tyrant Zenawi’s criminal thugs and death squads.

Ogaden is the land of Harar, Islam’s 4th holiest shrine, after Mecca, Madina and Al Quds ash Sherif (Jerusalem). Ogaden is the magic landscape of Jigjiga, the White Mosque and the fabulous caravans of Dhagaxbuur, the Shabelle river of Godey, the plains of Qabridahare, the acacias and the infinite horizons of Shilaabo, the monumental forts of Wardheer; Ogaden is Qelafo, Geladi, and Dira dhawe.

Ogaden is the centre of Somali culture and heritage.

From generation to generation, Ogadens are known hard hitters, in 1897 british officers described Ogadens as "the most formidable foe" in Africa.

Ogaden is the land of hundreds of thousands of martyrs in the name of freedom and justice. It is the cradle of revolutionary heroes.

In the middle of the 16th Century, Ahmed Guray and his men fought with Abyssinian aggressors in order to avers the latter's permanent threat to the land of the Somalis.

Ogaden the home of Wiil Waal, Absame Sultan, that Lived In The 16th Century, And Was The National hero Who Drove The Last Of The Galla Kings From Jigjigga.

Ogaden the land of the greatest poet, scholar and most feared charismatic warrior, the late Sayid Mohamed Abdille Hassan, the founder and leader of Dervish fighters in Somalia. The father of Somali poetry scansion, the late Rage Ugas was born in this great land.
