we should all strive to be near to Allah (Swt) we dont need to be great in any ones eyes. on top of that many of those who are considered great today, are criminals and mushrikeen.As for fame then there are many men who are unknown to the people but great in the site of Allah (Swt), just like the saying of Sufyan ibn Cuyana (rahimahuallah);

CP surely how you see yourself is much more important than how others see you? No matter how "great" someone else is considered to be they are the furthest thing from your mind when things are going wrong/right in your own life. Besides a lot of the people who are considered "great" now were hated, humiliated and belittled throughout their lives and only considered "great" close to or even after their death.
