No-one has come up with a definitive reason for WHY some people are left-handed, but about 13% of the population around the world are, and it is thought to be genetic - it definitely runs in families. Researchers have recently located a gene they believe "makes it possible to have a left-handed child " so if you have that gene, one or more of your children may be left-handed, whereas without it, you will only have right-handers - sorry! The good news is, that if you are left-handed yourself, you have that gene and will pass it on through the generations!

The way the brain works is incredibly complex, but this simplified explanation will give you some understanding of where our left-hand dominance comes from. The brain is "cross-wired" so that the left hemisphere controls the right handed side of the body and vice-versa and hand dominance is connected with brain dominance on the opposite side - which is why we say that only left-handers are in their right minds!

Exposure to higher rates of testosterone before birth can lead to a left-handed child. This is the Geschwind theory, named after the neurologist who proposed it, Norman Geschwind. It suggests that variations in levels of testosterone during pregnancy shape the development of the fetal brain. Testosterone suppresses the growth of the left cerebral hemisphere and so more neurons migrate to the right hemisphere.

hyperactive i remember when we was younger and at mulcamad/dugsi and a macalin said something dumb about it being haram or dambi to write with left hand so he tried to force my younger brother to write with right hand he said something about jin or shaydan on the left side. Is that true? But my abo got mad and shouted at him saying why did allah bless him to write on left side? if its dambi wasnt his choice allahs.

Anyways---Keyse this study is very interesting. I always knew Testosterone plays a very, very, very important role in the make up of a humanbeing. lack of important Testosterone in the body is the blame of homosexuality.(or excessive astrogen found in women)

I used to think that if the right side of your brain was larger then the left side then you would be left handed and vice versa.
Anyway I'm right handed so maybe the left side of my brain is bigger than the right side.

I am left-handed and none of my parents or sibblings are. In fact I can't think of anyone in my close family who is.
