Saudi Arabia has lifted a ban on the import of livestock from Somalia imposed nine years ago to prevent the spread of Rift Valley fever.
Somali pastoralists and traders have welcomed the news.
It means they can profit from increased demand for livestock during the Eid al-Adha festival when Muslims traditionally sacrifice an animal.
The export of sheep, goats and cattle is a mainstay of Somalia's economy and Saudi Arabia had been a major market.
The failed Horn of Africa state has not had a functioning central government since 1991.

Because of this lift, the dollar value has dropped relative to Somali shilling. It is a sign that our people are earning more hard currency.
Great News for Somalia. Bad News for Ethiopia, our perennial enemy.

Re: Saudi lifts Somali livestock ban
The ban was targeted precisely at Somaliland businessmen,
we lost more than $1billion between 2000 and 2009 due to this ban and $1billion is a conservative figure.
But guess what Somaliland is still standing, you will need to do allot more than that to hurt us.

Geez, you separatist clowns are a real joke.
This has nothing to do with Somaliland. The world is not against you, but they will never recognize you
Anyways, be happy. This is great news for Somalia and its people
