In 1995, on an AOL chat room

Post by Paddington Bear »

I had an argument with someone about Oasis, the band. The person believed that Oasis was better than the Beatles and I begged to differ. Today. I woke up to the Beatles’ 'She’s Leaving Home’ and for no reason AT ALL, I remembered that argument! It obviously still rankles.

Just wanted to share...

What's age got to do with appreciating good music? You disappoint me, woman.

Here are the lyrics to the song (I dedicate them to Ismahan's perfect match).

Wednesday morning at five o'clock as the day begins
Silently closing her bedroom door
Leaving the note that she hoped would say more
She goes downstairs to the kitchen clutching her handkerchief
Quietly turning the backdoor key
Stepping outside she is free.

She (We gave her most of our lives)
is leaving (Sacrificed most of our lives)
home (We gave her everything money could buy)
She's leaving home after living alone
For so many years. Bye, bye

Father snores as his wife gets into her dressing gown
Picks up the letter that's lying there
Standing alone at the top of the stairs
She breaks down and cries to her husband Daddy our baby's gone
Why would she treat us so thoughtlessly
How could she do this to me.

She (We never thought of ourselves)
is leaving (Never a thought for ourselves)
home (We struggled hard all our lives to get by)
She's leaving home after living alone
For so many years. Bye, bye

Friday morning at nine o'clock she is far away
Waiting to keep the appointment she made
Meeting a man from the motor trade.

She (What did we do that was wrong)
is having (We didn't know it was wrong)
fun (Fun is the one thing that money can't buy)
Something inside that was always denied
For so many years. Bye, bye
She's leaving home. Bye, bye

PD this is IMPRESSIVE, Song by James Blunt.

You're Beautiful lyrics

My life is brilliant.
My love is pure.
I saw an angel.
Of that I'm sure.
She smiled at me on the subway.
She was with another man.
But I won't lose no sleep on that,
'Cause I've got a plan.

You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
I saw your face in a crowded place,
And I don't know what to do,
'Cause I'll never be with you.

Yeah, she caught my eye,
As we walked on by.
She could see from my face that I was,
f-king high,(Real version)
Flying high,(clean version)
And I don't think that I'll see her again,
But we shared a moment that will last till the end.

You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
I saw your face in a crowded place,
And I don't know what to do,
'Cause I'll never be with you.
You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
There must be an angel with a smile on her face,
When she thought up that I should be with you.
But it's time to face the truth,
I will never be with you.

Oh damn you Basra! Lowering the tone to such disgusting levels. James Blunt (and that song in particular) is an irritating nobody that only appeals to American teenagers. Damn you Basra. Damn you for spoiling my mood with that rubbish.

A point of order, my darling. My stuff is never petty. I'll give you frivolous and occasionally trivial but never petty. Besides, I was merely trying to find an opening to slip that song in.

When you see me boasting about my greatest ancestor (which he was by the way - great I mean) or stooping to studenty swearing, you can freely claim that I've conformed.

Indeed I do, Ismahan. Alas, I can't fully relate to it since I had no daughter, sister or relative that left home in such a way. Though I did lose a cat once and listened to this song endlessly at the time. But I would not dare compare the loss of my beloved cat to parents losing their daughters.

Young Ka Darag surprises me.

Zuliaka, if it would make you feel less intimidated then, yes, I’ll happily humour you.
