It's very worthwhile, and heavily moderated, when people change profiles the alterations are reviewed and reverted if they don't survive a simple fact check. Even then, I wouldn't cite a paragraph or statistic that has no citations, even if it's not flagged.

Wikipedia is valid (or invalid) on a case-by-case basis. Speaking as an administrator, anything not backed up by a source is noted as such, making it a reputable resource as long as you're capable of looking at the bottom of the page.

Ok stuck up nerdic idiots. We r not talking about academic benefits here- i am just talking about the common facts of a person. Date of birth, place of birth, career, who they married, book or movies made about them. U know gossip factless factoids.

Wikipedia isn't bad as a preliminary source of info. Some infos (particularly about historical events, people, etc) can be biased.

I've been a sysop since 2001. It's one of my defining accomplishments. When I introduce myself to people, I usually mention being an admin/moderator on an extremely reputable site, or some variation thereof.

For instance i was making Wiki search about Lord byron the 18th century poet-- and came across some tibbits connected to Jane austen. (nearly had explose migrane orgasm)

Now JA was born 1775--- and Byron 1788-----

byron and ja shared same publisher, Mr Murray. Both were in london several times together, even though JA lived in the country hermshire? lol and Byron travelling to Greece and turkey-on and off.

btw 1800 - 1808 both were in london together- and could have met in the streets.

I also discovered one Gigantic tidbt. JA has a favorite niece- fanny--who she corresponded heavily with. Fanny is the daughter of her brother-who was adopted by a rich family. Now here is the connection- in 1824- when Byron died in the war of greece--(long when JA died-she died in 1817) Bryons dead body was brought to london, and Mr murray-the same publisher of both geniuses---rented a house from a rich "Lord" for the body to be showcased. Guess who this elegant house belonged to? Young JA's niece- fannys future husband!
