AUGUSTA, Maine - A Maine legislator wants to make the state the first to require cell phones to carry warnings that they can cause brain cancer, although there is no consensus among scientists that they do and industry leaders dispute the claim.

The now-ubiquitous devices carry such warnings in some countries, though no U.S. states require them, according to the National Conference of State Legislators. A similar effort is afoot in San Francisco, where Mayor Gavin Newsom wants his city to be the nation's first to require the warnings.

No-one knows the long term effects of the strong electromagnetic fields that surround us on a daily basis, but there have been studies that link low frequency electromagnetic fields to health problems and cancer.

This isn't merely limited to cell phones though, high voltage power lines and appliances such as microwave ovens or TVs have quite large electromagnetic fields when in use.

The World Health Organization has been monitoring this sort of thing for decades.

We are electromagnetic beings, our blood cells have magnetic iron and we project our own natural magnetic field, so inevitably electromagnetic fields will have some sort of effect on us, but noone knows precisely what that will be.

Other technologies causing stress, near sightedness
Text messaging is causing accidents etc
should we abandon all of technology?
I think there will come a time when all the ppl will find out that there is more problem caused by technology then solutions, and they will abandon all technology and go back to easy living, like classical times.

Well the problem isn't technology, I mean everything is technology, even language is a technology. There are consequences to using any technology, but the reason that these harmful technologies are so widespread is that they benefit humankind in very obvious and direct ways, and harm humankind only in very indirect ways, and the harm is entirely self-inflicted.

Over-use is the problem, not the technology. People should only drive or use a cell phone when they need to, not just needlessly drive because they're just feeling lazy or use the cellphone because it's more convenient.
