We all know how important education is to improve one’s chances of leading a fulfilling life. There is No one who’ll disagree with that. The importance of education is quiet obvious as it’s the main way of putting ones potentials to maximum use. It liberates the mind and the soul. So its my personal top priority. But lately I discovered that many of the Somali youth don’t share my passion to learn and achieve academically, they have a totally different view on life. Many attend college as a place to waste time and make new friend, improving their social status amongst their peers...forgetting the main purpose of the institution...many young people don’t even have the basic qualifications of English and math ( the minimum requirement of securing a job other than cleaning). Girls in particular see life as getting married and having children (there is nothing wrong with that) but it becomes a problem when it just stops there and they don’t improve their personal well being... live on benefits is not a life.... its a process of killing the brain slowly..... but who knows maybe am wrong? Their argument was why go Uni, when I can work and earn money fast? Another girl said, what’s the point of getting a degree, when the ultimate destiny of every girl is marriage and family life, and the degree will be no use, just a framed piece of paper?

So, the question is which academic level do you think is important and is a fundamental factor of securing a better life ?

lol easy mistake...

The irony of that chauvanistic view being said by a female was meant to make it light-hearted, neverthelsss.....

I think slowly our community is realizing the imp of education and as for girls seeing marriage as the only option, most of them girls are the ones never were interested in school from my observation. In saying that I don't know about y'all but down here girls are far more academic then our brothers and that really is a sad cause given they're meant to be leaders of households and what not and I would agree with Qoraxeey here highschool education would suffice for one to get by...
