How come Somalis reject Sharax (Reer Xamar) and accept Niiko
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W44DSmtx ... re=related
while surfing Youtube i come upon Edison Somali tradtion dance and you wouldn't believe the number of negative comment about this Reer Xamar dance. most reject the dance as too Arab or Yemeni not a true Somali dance. yet at the same time youtube is flooded with Niiko clips and the few that object to Niiko, object only from a moral standpoint for Good or ill Niiko is seen as being very Somali.
so my Question is why do we reject other African and yet assimiliate their culture and why are we more accepting to Arabs yet we reject their culture.

Wa Fahmay, lakiinsa, in every Somali wedding whether the people are reer Djibouti or Reer Kenya you'll find Niiko. it just become apart of Somali culture especailly in the last 50 years.
what i don't get is that generally our people are intolerant toward somali Bantu so why assimiliate their dance and yet reject Reer Xamar culture which is in fact Quasi-Arab culture.

you right i shouldn't generalize, but in the 90s Niiko was in every wedding, there is a new trend however most of the wedding i been to recently have been shiekh weddings, very religious people. no intermixing and absolutely on Niiko or western music. but in mixed wedding there is alway Niiko.Samatr wrote:^I have yet to see niiko at any of my family's weddings so far, its not wise to generalize.
