Islam in somalia

So a dude from the church comes to my work. He was curious of my background and religion so finally
as time went he discover I was Muslim because of my name tag and I was from Somalia.
So he asked me politely how come Somalis are fighting each other ?
Doesn't their religion teach them to respect the human life and to live in peace ?

I paused and I realized all Somalis are not true Muslims, they just like to associate in group of people that follow
spiritual guidance. We are bad example of a Muslim nation and we should be ashamed for ourselves

There is no doubt about that but I don't think there is much of a 'good' example of a Muslim nation nowadays....
