Richard Burton

Post by S_lander-boy »

Richard Burton was a misfit bigot, manipulator, ignorant and ruthless Colonialist foot soldier. Nothing less can describe the damage, misrepresentation and prejudices of his material toward Somalis and other Africans. Such concoction has no place in the enlightened and sovereign minds of the young generation. His notes fall beyond the limits of human decency and that is why even his wife fittingly burnt his other voyeuristic and scandal-ridden material after his death.
This azzhole was a good spy a coward of a man a top liar I read his book First footsteps in East Africa.

A Richard burton qoute

tarud Jabarti 11 bin Ismail bin Akil (or Ukayl) is supposed by his descendants to have been a Arab from El Hejaz, who, obliged to flee his country,

Apparently according to the liar burton bin ismail was dissmissed with the words , Inna-tarad-na-hu (verily we have rejected him): hence his name Tarud ([Arabic]) because he stoled the prophet peace be upon him his slippers. again these are Burton his words he wrote a lot bullshiid about somalis.

His personality traits aren't important, what matters more is that his work is laughable.

The best way to know whether a historian is worth his salt is to see whether they cite Burton when expounding on one of the many topics he wrote poorly about. It's the scholarly equivalent of a litmus test.

He was nothing more than a racist, orientalist adventurer who liked sausages up his arse.

i dont know why some seem so suprised with this...after all his mission was based on deception rather than fact finding.

Why are people focusing on his personal views? By today's standards, every historian on note was 'racist'. or 'bigoted'

What is pathetic is that people (Somalis in particular) who want to learn more about Somali or East African history rely on books/sources written by two-bit authors like Burton and even worse, Lewis.

If a scholar similar to them wrote something on, say, the Orient they wouldn't be given a moments notice, but because Somali history is so poorly documented we have to settle for anything we can find

On Somalia? None. There are a few contemporary scholars worth taking note of, a few of them homegrown, but if you are looking for historical sources, there is nothing. You will find the occasional truth in the works of Simpson, et al but I wouldn't recommend anything personally unless you are casually looking to further your knowledge of Somalia affairs and are not to bothered about being fed mistruths.

What Somalia needs/needed is a comprehensive historical narrative which is objective and capable of standing up to scrutiny, none are available currently.

A very lamentable predicament. Its because of our lack of a literary tradition.

The only Richard Burton We should care is ...

Image

The actor :
Who wasn't afraid of Virginia Woolf?
Spent 1000 days with Anna
Was Generalissimo Tito
Lover of Cleopatra
Several times better than the real King Henry IV
The only man who married Liz Taylor twice

May he rest in Peace (hell, if that's the case)

Not this coward (Richard Francis Burton) who was bent on distorting Islam
