A big example why oral Somali history has to be flushed out.

Post by Voltage »

In the Italian colonialism thread started by Fah, there was this response:
nomadicwarlord wrote:If SYL founders heard this, they would be turning over in their graves. Make them proud by fighting for the freedom they gave you. :som:
The misconception above peddled by Somali oral sentimental revised history has been the cardinal truth as taken by every Somali alive today and in this forum from old but ignorant ones like Abdiwahab to young but unread ones like nomadicwarlord.

Can someone tell me what is wrong with this baseless statement grounded in flawed Somali oral sentimental revised history?

Voltage, ninyow why are you so emotional, the only reason you are supporting colonialism is because of the current situation. As gedo_gurl told you countries have civil wars and then eventually rebuild from that. Somalia is in the worst state it could be in so insha'allah it will come out of that, have some optimism.

Here is a hint. Why do Somalis act like they are Nigeria, Kenya, Guinea, etc who actually had to fight for freedom when they were given theirs on silver platter?

Somalia had no freedom fighters because Somalia's independence was ratified by the world ten years before independence. In fact if we weren't so backward we would have been the first post-colonial independent black African state. We would have been given independence the same year as Libya, 7 years before Ghana, the first post-colonial independent black African state.

SYL was part of the process for enhancing Somali political maturity. Having SOmalis understand and form political parties was the actual doing of the Italians as the former colonial power tasked with presiding over the U.N Trust territory of Somalia that existed for 10 years from 1950 to 1960. Italy ceased being our colonial ruler in 1949. After that they were only managing the trust territory, preparing it and overseen by the U.N Security Council. In 1949, the same year the Somali UN trust territory was announced following the handling of the former colonies of WWII defeated Italy was the same year its dependence was announced as well 10 years later.

The best laugh I have ever had in Somalinet is when Abdiwahab once said "only Israel supported us when Abdullahi Ciise went to New York to lobby for Somali independence". Learn your damn history first you buffoon!

Where did these slow kids come from? Pay attention to the topic. This is a historical lesson and the fact you think this is a "emotional pro-colonialism" is exactly why its needed.

Voltage wrote:That is not why I am laughing. I am laughing because the only "vote" given for Somalia's independence was in 1949, 11 years before 1960 when supposedly Israel voted for us but the Arabs did not. When Fascist Italy was defeated in the WW II, Italy's colonies were sent to the Security Council in which Libya was granted Indepedence, Eritrea federated with Ethiopia, and Somalia was put on a 10 year U.N trusteeship that was to prepare it for unification with British Somaliland in 1960. Our Independence was guaranteed 10 years before 1960. Learn basic history my brother.

Everything that transpired to prepare Somalia for independence such as municpal elections, the forming of political parties (SYL), etc was actually training for the Somalis ordered and overseen by the U.N Security Council (the trust territory department) and managed by Italy as the former colonial power tasked with it.

How did revisionist sentimental oral Somali history turn into some grand anti-colonialism ventures designed against the Italians and forced them to give us freedom?

Waa yaab!

Why does that have to do with anything? These are facts, not opinions. Do you disagree with any of these facts?

You threw around emotional earlier, maybe you need to understand what it means and judge who is being emotional here.
