Mawlid, at my house. . . your take?

Post by SultanOrder »

I had a mawlid last night at my house, it was very interesting experience and enjoyable one at that, it had nothing to do with celebrating birthdays or any of that stuff most people accuse of Mawlid practicers.
It was a small gathering of very devout muslim brothers whose intelligence and knowledge is very extensive, also a lot of them were university graduates with bachelors or higher and have traveled overseas to study at prestigious Islamic centers of knowledge, and the Imam of our local Islamic center was present. I can personally vouch for their character.

Contrary to modern belief it had nothing to do with Sheikh Jaylani (aun) or calling to others for help other than Allah. It was not done for a specific date (holiday), and we did not stand and go into a chant.

We simply sang some nasheeda's(poems) some of the burdah (personally i cant sing lol), praising the noble qualities of the prophet, we tried to make as much salawats on the nabi as possible to be rewarded by Allah, and we read some Quran. It was more about celebrating and remember what our prophet did for us and increase our love for him. Alhamudlilah the Imam gave us some wonderful stories from the seerah, and we ended it after an hour and a half.

All and all a good positive experience Alhamudlilah.

So I ask was this Bid'ac?

Bidca shaati loo xirey

Instead of nasheed iyo wax yaalahaas kale, read the quraan and do tafsiir you know normal stuff that wont lead u to the path of bidca for ajar and not for other objective (mawliid, birthday etc).

Subxanallah

People just throw around religious knowledge like there is a surplus of it.

I remember last night one of the guys who happen to study for several years abroad with a sheikh was asked a question the other day. He was asked whether we should hate kafirs or not. Ofcourse he had an oppinion with a small amount of proof, but he felt he should ask the Imaam that was there for his views on it before he gave his. ofcourse the Imaam had numerous examples supporting his point from the quran and sunnah but he also felt obligated that he should ask his sheikh in Yemen for an answer though he was very certain of his view.

Masha'Allah it just showed me the character and the humbleness of the people who take their religion with the utmost sincerity and seriousness. And their opinion is worth far more to me than all of the s'net members put together.
