Dumaal is a necessary cultural practice for people living in a nomadic lifestyle, it gives security to the children and the widowed lady, I understand why it's done but today there are more options out there, I am pretty sure this practice is on the decline.

We are talking about a nomadic lifestyle here where a woman is part of her husband's clan. There is no way to look after your brother's properties and children without marrying his wife and cementing the familial relationship. It is perfectly logical in that situation.

I still can't understand how a killer is not worthy of the crime but the most important kinsman has to be handed over to give full justice to what the victim's clan considers their loss. Wallahi it is sick!
