I use RealPlayer SP, and the download button automaticly shows up always just above the youtube video
but you need VLC media player to watch it

I use Safari web browser. It has a built-in utility that will allow you to download youtube videos without having to add any third party plugins.
In Safari:
1. Click on Window
2. Click on Activity
3. Expand the Youtube URL
4. Find the biggest file in the list
5. Double click on it to download it....
And you are done.

Vixy.net, quick and simple with multiple possible formats including audio. Realplayer and other download manager type alternatives are good too.
