Situation on the ground

Post by James Dahl »

There have been modest but significant territorial changes since December 19th, when I last updated the map of Somalia.

BENADIR:
Dharkeynley to Government
Hodan to Government
Shibis to Government
Kaaraan to Government

These are interesting as it appears the government is moving into al-Shabab held districts but staying out of Xizbul Islam held districts, taking advantage of the division between the two.

GALGADUUD:
Ceelbuur still held by al-Shabaab?
Galhareeri still held by al-Shabaab?

I'm not sure about the status of the ASWJ counteroffensive, are they going to deal with the Ceelbuur pocket in Galgaduud, or just go around it, as it seems like they're doing?

GEDO:
Luuq to Xisbul Islam
Dolow to Barre Hiiraale

HIIRAAN:
East Beledweyne to ASWJ
West Beledweyne to ASWJ?
Buuloburte still held by al-Shabaab?

I haven't heard much out of Gedo since the counteroffensive last year into Luuq by the southern branch of ASWJ, though I have heard that Baardheere is a major ASWJ center in Gedo. Maybe someone can help me out here?

All of Gedo except for Luuq and Dollow are under Shabaab.

Luuq is under Xisbul Islam and Dollow is under Barre Hiiraale.

James,
Add your list to the J/Hoose and J/Dhexe under these criminal Alshabaabs. Also don't forget Sh/Hoose, Bay, Bakool, Sh/Dhexe. I think Hiiraan is mostly run by Xisbul-Islaam.

In my view it would take a long time to liberate all these cities from these fockers.

Supposedly, I don't really know. All I know is Gedo is enjoying its peace and security.

Voltage: I hope things can be solved through diplomacy, the post-Ethiopian occupation war hasn't been as bloody as the occupation was, but intransigence on the part of Xisbul Islam and al-Shabaab has caused what should have been resolved at the bargaining table to be resolved on the battlefield. It is my hope that defeat in the capital will be enough to convince Xisbul Islam and al-Shabab to come to the bargaining table and establish the first truly national government in decades.

Indeed, though this is unchanged from the map I made previously, the above list is of changes to be made to accurately portray the situation on the ground.
