GOING TO SOMALIA: WHAT SHOULD I BRING ALONG.
i'm going to Somalia in one month! I need to know if YOU are going to SOMALIA for a vacation(Going to North Somalia by the way-insha'allah when the south is safe i will go there too, and i pray to Allah to make it safe and all of somalia entirely one day amiin).
So what should you REMEMBER TO ALWAYS BRING ALONG ON THIS AMAZING TRIP TO back home:
YES I know :
1) A camera
2) anti Malaria pills & Vaccination
3) sunglasses and sunscreen
BUT i can't help but wonder that i'm missing something big, like when i actually go to Somalia i woud hate to say, OMG i should've brought along that, or this, etc, etc,
i would be doing lots of walking by the way when i arrive to somalia, visiting the hawd, the beach to do lots of swimming as well, overall i'm planning insh'allah for it to be a real advernture and relaxation!
Also if you are going to Somalia, what shouldn't you bring along, i.e. like things that are NOT Necessary and would just be too much baggage!
so in this Forum, I would like to know how YOU would prepare yourself to Somalia, of what to definately bring along, and what not to, and yes i will be passing through Dubai, and staying there for few days to buy some stuff.
Thanks guys, i know this is a good topic, since it will all help us be better travelers to back home insha''allah when we all go.

Re: GOING TO SOMALIA: WHAT SHOULD I BRING ALONG.
Well in Somalia, when it gets dark, it gets BLACK.
So one evening I was taking a stroll outside with my flashlight and all of the sudden I got attacked by bats. The only way I could get away from them was to shine the flashlight in their face. They would go crazy for a minute with the light in their face and then fly away.
So yeah, bring a flashlight if you don't want to go to sleep at 7 pm.

I got burned over 4 times in just 1 month.......even with SPF +30
Don’t forget vitamin supplements, food in Somalia has low nutritional value…
Also, all the medicines for basic ailments (diarrhea, headaches, cold sore etc). Medicines in Somalia are the worst and most likely all expired

Dabagaale,
You are a very nice person
Thanks for making Ducaa for our country
It depends where you are going? Are you by any chance going to miyiga? You need to take:
1. Medicine for dysenteria/diarrhea.
2. Pain killers.
3. Boots (If you are going to the miyi) I don't like snakes.
4. Out of the counter medicines and ointments like..Toothache (Oragel) and stuff like that.
5. Take with you all the clothes you don't want...So that you give to the needy people over there(But make sure you are not paying a lot of freight $$). Just take the amount of kg you are allowed..
6. Be careful of AIDS..In Africa they have a lot of infected people...Our people don't tell..Even if you want to marry make sure to test...
7. Be carefull of the water you are drinking..If you don't have bottle water make sure to drink boiled water
5. You need to have some money to give to people..They are expecting
Ilaahayna tawakal, safar salaamana

Garoowe and Bosaso have some water companies that directly deliver water to your home (underground via the tap). Clean as a whistlekambuli wrote: 7. Be carefull of the water you are drinking..If you don't have bottle water make sure to drink boiled water
Outside of Garowe and Bosaso it's indeed crappy

kambuli,
You are confusing it with pure untreated ground water, they have several new water companies that deliver first-world-quality water to your home.
Several hotels such as Jubba and International Village for example use it and if your relatives could afford a 25$ per month connection. It tastes the same as normal tap water from your home countries.
