From `Ubayd Allah ibn `Umar, from Nafi`:"A man said to Ibn `Umar: "I have a neighbor who bears witness against me that I commit shirk." He replied: "Say: 'La Ilaha illAllah,' you will make him a liar."
It's wrong, very wrong to call any1 a Kaafir so long as they haven't renounced the faith explicitly. Only Allah (swt) knows what's in anyone's heart. There was a group in Somalia who would come into the Masjid and never pray with the rest of the people because they doubted the faith of the folks leading the prayers! Inside a masjid!
The Prophet (scw) urged Muslims to follow the middle ground, never the extremes. I don't know what has happened to people but we are going either extreme left or extreme right. I see it as a failure to use one's brain. How many versus in the Qur'an end with "those wonder" or "those who ponder." No one does that anymore. We blindly listen and follow talking mouth pieces with hidden agendas or delusional ideas.
its not hard to distinguish a non-muslim from a muslim, either one will pretty much let you know. having said that, what is inside the heart of the person is only known to Allah(swt) so if you see a muslim acting foolish you should rather correct him with a reminder or an advice as the person might be in a moment of ignorance.
some people worship Allah(swt) with partners without even knowing so, e.g. a person over rules the law of Allah by taking for him what Allah made Xalal as Xaram and also the other way around. this is a grave sin, submiting to a man made law before/instead of Allah's law.
student loans, mortgage etc all containing Ribah which is Xaram.
to be honest, why would anyone busy themselves with others instead of themselves ?
