HOW can a nation of progressed self declared feminist claim so much successes and independence from chauvinist or MAN opression--and yet--their custom is-when a woman gets married-- she takes the name of the husband. Suddenly the name of her father or her birth surname is useless. Is that Oxymoron? How can a real feminist take this major symbolism of submission???????

i thought the same thing til i noticed they still cook, wash, have babies, do the grocery, prefer to stay home with their kids if they didnt have to work for living, or if there husband made enough money (you would be surprised how much well off people stay home and raise kids), the name was just the pudding.

“Call them (adopted sons) by (the names of) their fathers, that is more just with Allaah…” [al-Ahzaab 33:5]. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah has cursed the one who claims to belong to someone other than his father.” (Reported by Imaam Ahmad and others). And Allaah knows best.

The father is the protector and maintainer of the child and his mother both inside and outside the home. So the child is given the name of the father, not of the mother who is hidden away and who is one of those whom Allaah commanded (interpretation of the meaning)

Basra if you read about society in the last century then you will understand why they became the way they are. Every movement is just a reflection of what it is fighting, so if something is harsh then people will repel it equally harsh.

In my American History class we went over popular culture and the psychological submission of woman and fitting them to defined roles. How a woman should be happy in the home, raising the kids, do whatever it takes to make her husband happy, giving up her life for him, and if she wasn't happy in this specific defined role then she could be clinically diagnosed insane .

They were oppressed by extremists, so they fought it by being extreme.

in the Quran, "Proclaim their (children's) real parentage." 33:5 (Pickthall's translation). Our Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) said "whoever intentionally related himself/herself to someone else instead of their father, Paradise is prohibited for him" Bukhari and Muslim.

Al-Bukhaari (3508) and Muslim (61) narrated from Abu Dharr (may Allaah be pleased with him) that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) say: “Any man who knowingly attributes himself to someone other than his father is guilty of kufr. Whoever claims to belong to a people when he has nothing to do with them, let him take his place in Hell.”

what i've notice in western culture is that they have no respect and/or give credit to fathers. we shouldnt be like them. girls keep your fathers names. learn it all the way down to the 15th. be proud. never take husbands' surname.
