I felt so embarrassed today

Post by OliveOil »

I went with three of my girl friends to Applebees...waxay yahiin a Moroccon, an Algerian, and a Korean....of course 2 muslims and christian weeyaan. Laakiin the Christian one is very much interested about Islam and knows a lot about it. So while we were there, we saw like 6-7 older Somali men in their late 30s to mid 40s at the bar section drinking

Walahi waan isku yaxyaxay :x

No one knows they were Somalis except you, unless you told them...but anyhow why were embarrassed because the drinking somalis saw you or you have seen Somali men at the bar?

That's messed up, lakiin what's more messed up is that seeing older Somali men drinking is not even surprising anymore.

I see one of my Somali homeboy's father at the bar in a stripmarket beside my house all the time. I've also seen a different Somali homeboy's father drunk too. My other Somali homeboy went stateside to visit his pops, and found out his old man throws back 2-4's of beer like it's nuthin.

And this is the generation that was raised in Somalia, imagine the ones raised here.

Walahi Mr. Youngfresh I totally agree with you. Its supposed to be the opposite! Hada its becoming more and more common with the older generation.

Laba bil ka hor nin baa Somalinimo the corner store ooga soo qaaday (which I will never do again)...ninkii was carrying a bottle of something in a brown paper bag. And of course, i figured it would only be a qamri

Oh I see, I do not want to say anything negative about Morrocans because I do have good friends from that place but sis the Morrocans are more like Europeans in some way, so do not let anyone make you believe they are better muslims than Somalis, every society does have her share of good & bad.

Anyhow good night sis...I am so tired...just came from seeing the Date Movie, its funny, if you have time go n see it :D

You were an accomplice to sakhraanimo? Maxaa kugu dhacay walaal

On the real though, even dumarka aren't safe from it. Wallahi I've seen a Somali lady oo caruur yar wadato at The Beer Store in my neighbourhood, LIVE like it's nothing. Maba qariyaan anymore. It was so weird seeing islaan Somali ah doing that patented islaamo running motion (which is more like a quick shuffle with their arms swinging, and they're really actually going no faster than someone who's walking normally ) towards the khamro.

its just that sometimes you can easily be mistaken, its hard to tell the difference between an Eritrean, Oromo, Amhara and Somali; i don't believe a group of Somalis would drink together like that given that is extremely taboo in our culture to do things like that in GROUPS.

Of course there is a certain defiance , affront , because they know that muslims are not supposed to do it .
but do not let it bother you . Anigu when I used to do that shit , I would get a particular quick in getting into any somali "s face that would give me " the look" . At the end of the day , I was only fighting myself  , everybody knows that you have to pay a price when consuming alcohol if you are muslim . Some confront their reality , some accomodate it to their peril. The single biggest error I have made in my life ! But it is not easy to quit once you've become addicted to it , so in our part we also need to show patience as much as we can
