
Brigadier Haji was born on 16 April 1958 in Ijara District, North Eastern Province of the Republic of
Kenya . He was educated in Garissa Primary and Secondary schools till 1977 and thereafter joined the
Army on 11 May 1978. After completion of the Officer Cadet Course at the Armed Forces Training College in Lanet, he was posted to 76 Ground Cavalry Regiment that was later renamed 76 Armoured Recce Battalion. Having served as a recce officer for two years, he was nominated to attend an armament instructors course in India and on return was posted to 81 Tank Battalion as the Regimental Gunnery Officer. In 1983 he was nominated to attend the Armour Officers Advanced Course (AOAC1-84) USA and then returned to his unit to hold important regimental appointments. He served as a Military observer in the United Nations Iraq-Kuwait Observer Mission (UNIKOM) from May 1991-1992. After briefly serving as Brigade Major, Amoured Brigade, he was selected to attend the Army Command and Staff Course in the United Kingdom in 1993. On return to Kenya he was appointed Second-in-Command 78 Tank Bn in 1994 and in August of the same year was promoted to Ueutenant Colonel and appointed Commanding Officer. He served in this capacity until September 1997.
After serving as a Staff Officer at DOD briefly, Brig. Haji was seconded to the Office of the President as Director National Disaster Operations Centre for two years and left there on promotion to Colonel and appointed Colonel Operations at DOD. This lasted only a few months after which he was appointed Contingent Commander Kenya Military Advisory and Training team-Rwanda (KMATT—R). It was while sewing in Rwanda that he was then appointed Defence Adviser to the United Kingdom from February 2001 to March 2004.
In 2005, Brigadier Haji attended the National Defence College-Kenya and was thereafter appointed Brigade Commander, Armoured Brigade from December 2005 to August 2007 when he was appointed Chief of Operations and Training Headquarters, Kenya Army. He is now the Commandant Kenya Military Academy Lanet (wef July 08).
Brig. Haji married Zeinab Daud Haji in 1988. They are blessed with seven Children, a boy and six girls. He enjoys travelling, meeting people and volleyball.
