In 1990, with the country edging towards anarchy, the late President Aden Abdulle Osman Daar and about 100 other Somali politicians signed a manifesto expressing concern over the destruction of property and land, murders, and the flight of refugees as a result of the civil war in Somalia.

The dictator is expressing outrage about what his forces committed and what he was specifically warned against. Dr Hussain Haji Bood AUN in that video tells the regime about the consequences of its actions and how clan-targeted killings could have. Unfortunately, the dictator and the regime never listened and instead went on with its program of massacres and displacement. The dictator's famous words, " I will unleash a volcano" and " I came with the gun and only the gun can remove me from power," illustrate the suicidal mentality of the regime and its dictator. Even after he was toppled, the dictator made efforts to come back to power through violence.

In the video you posted, the dictator decries about the very lunacy, destruction and displacement that he has invented and marketed in our country. His are nothing but crocodile tears.

Still, we say, may his soul rest in peace. He should be used as an example of the consequences of violence, injustice, nepotism, corruption, zero-sum politics, and almost every vile ailment our country today suffers from can have on society. Almost the entire pedigree of the challenges and problems our country faces today can be directly tied to him.

Hawiye actions in Xamar took away any bad light shed on Siad Barre, in fact they made his legacy look better than his supporters could have tried. Hawiye didn't want to overthrow Siad Barre, they simply wanted to make sure that there would be no Somalia for him or any rivals to rule. Its really hard to refute that, that's why many like AW252 skip that part and go straight to the "dictator" talk.

Somalia reaped the fruits the dictator sowed.

The dictator regime has left a deep mark in the Somali peoples' psyche and it would take generations to erase.

Aideed, Abdullahi Yusuf and Hassan Dahir Aweys were all Frankensteins the dictator created.

And your point about " there would no Somalia" is bogus. The people of Somaliland and Puntland will spit in your face for uttering such none-sense and hopefully soon, the people of Mogadishu will.

When the Nigerian playwright Chinua Achebe wrote this poem about the Nigerian regime, he could very well had Somalia in mind.

The worst threat from men of hell
May not be their actions cruel
Far worse that we may learn their way
And behave more fierce than they.

The worst legacy of the regime is its invention of clan-politics and its use of clan-dynamics and Zero-sum politics to further its ends. The total destruction of Hargaisa, the death of 100,000+ people and the displacements of millions more was a prelude of what was to come. The rebels simply copied the regime and its dictator. There is nothing the rebels did that the dictator hasn't done. That's what people mean when they call MSB AUN as the father of the Somali destruction and the single most important reason why the Somali project came crushing down on its knees.

To ignore this, is to ignore the very obvious.
