Louise! There are some things One shouldn't Show that early in the evening

It was the sort of plunging neckline that leads to a surge in viewers.

But BBC presenter Louise Minchin was told to cover up on The One Show after producers noticed that her dress left rather too little to the imagination.
The 42-year-old had to make a dash to the BBC wardrobes to cover up just minutes before she went on air on Friday evening.

Ms Minchin and her co-host, Strictly Come Dancing winner Chris Hollins, were standing in for regular presenters Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley.
The start of the show was delayed by a party political broadcast, so the pair presented a 30-second live trailer before the programme.
But a producer said Ms Minchin’s £1,000 dress by the late Alexander McQueen was too revealing.


After the trailer the presenter ran to the costume department, where she found a top owned by Miss Bleakley. As the show started, she dashed back to her spot on the sofa.
A TV source said: ‘Louise had bought this Alexander McQueen dress because she is a huge fan. She and Chris sat together to do a trail for The One Show.
‘It was only a couple of minutes before the show began, but there was a party political broadcast at 7pm and the producers and controllers didn’t want people to think The One Show had been cancelled.
‘But as soon as they finished, one of the production team came up to her and pointed out that she looked really good – maybe a little bit too good for that time of the evening.
‘Louise rushed off to the make-up room, and one of the make-up girls lent her a white top. She had to do a double quick change.

'After the show she got a phone call from her mother, who had been absolutely horrified she had appeared in something so low-cut. But Louise can see the funny side.’

Ms Minchin is a regular stand-in for established names like Sian Williams on BBC Breakfast and News At One’s Sophie Raworth.
She fronts the daytime show Missing Live, has a regular slot on BBC News 24 and appeared in Around The World In 80 Days last year.
She recently spoke of her agony after her appendix burst while she was giving birth to her first daughter, Mia, in 2001.

She and restaurateur husband David were thrown off ITV show Hell’s Kitchen by Marco Pierre White after Mr Minchin complained about the food.
A BBC spokeswoman said: ‘It’s fair to say Louise Minchin had a dress dilemma before Friday night’s episode of The One Show.
‘The One Show make-up artist quickly found a vest belonging to Christine Bleakley to spare Louise’s blushes.’
