« Dagaal wiil kuma dhashee, wiil baa ku dhinta ! » says a beautiful proverb from our cultural heritage. War is like a real hell in which everything is destroyed; people die, get displaced and properties are destroyed or looted by the strongest. Life becomes so difficult to cope with.
The Republic of Djibouti has chosen to serve peace in Horn of Africa. She has never been involved in conflicts that crippled life in this worn-torn region for the last 50 years. It is true that Djibouti has, in many times, found herself in a critical situation in which it was hard to be neutral, however, she has managed to get along with warring parties and therefore deserved their respect and love.
I believe that Somalia and Ethiopia have not shouldered their responsibilities to pave the way for security and lasting peace in this region; instead, they waged a destructive war on each other in the past; a war that fuelled other guerrilla rebellion and insurgence alongside their borders (SSDF, WSLF, ONLF, OLF, SNM…).
To be constructive, Somalia and Ethiopia were like two fighting elephants that crushed, smashed and shattered everything on their way to prove that they were stronger and could inflict harm and injury upon one another! This has resulted in death of millions of people, masses of refugees everywhere, lack of development, destruction of traditional ways of our life and of course the collapse of Somalia’s central government.
Djibouti and Peace in Horn of Africa.
