Hargeisa is hilly by nature with the Valley of the maroodi jeex dry river in the middle. Since there is no water drainage in the city, all rain water tends to find itself down the stream that flows to the river. Back in the day when the city had more ground space, the water used to be absorbed on the ground which used minimize flooding in the valley of the city. Now that we have so much construction and virtually no empty ground in Hargeisa all the rain water bounce of the roofs of these houses and by the time the water hit the ground, they have nowhere to go. The water pressure build up due to the congestion created by lack of space and water drainage results flooding in the valley.
